Travel and Accommodation

Academy Accommodation and Meals:
Participants are staying in a three-star hotel in the center of Cremona in double or triple occupancy rooms with private bathrooms. Buffet breakfast and lunch are provided. Additional fees apply for single room accommodation.

Sightseeing and Excursions:
The Academy offers its participants and guests special day sightseeing tours. This year’s tour will take us to the city of Mantua, the historic city of Lombardy with its unique Palazzo Ducale and Mantegna frescoes, Basilica of Sant’Andrea, and Saint George Castle and is planned for Sunday, July 29.

While in Cremona, participants and guests will be able to visit the workshops of Cremona’s renowned luthiers and the Consorzio Liutai “Antonio Stradivari” of Cremona and meet with its members. Special short city tours of Cremona can be scheduled upon requests from participants and guests.

Participants and guests have a unique opportunity to visit the world famous Violin Museum of Cremona with its wonderful collections of string instruments made by Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati, Bergonzi, and also a large collection of string instruments made by modern Cremonese luthiers. The Academy will help organize special tours of the Museum upon request from participants and guests.

Travel Arrangements, Airport transportation:
Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements and transportation. Airport transportation from and to Milan Malpensa Airport is offered by the Academy by a prior arrangement. Additional fee applies. Please note that an adult must accompany participants under age 12. The following schedule of Airport transfers is offered:

Milan Malpensa – Cremona:

July 15 (Arrival day for three-week program)
July 22 (Arrival day for two-week program)

Departure  approx. 10.30am and 2.00pm
Departure  approx. 10.30am and 2.00pm

Cremona – Milan Malpensa:

August 5  (Departure day)

Departures in the morning

Special Milan Malpensa Airport – Cremona transfer will be scheduled on July 20 for Competition participants attending a two-week program. Departure approx. 10.30am and 2.00pm

Medical, Travel, and Musical Instrument Insurance
Participants are expected to arrange their own travel and medical insurance. Academy recommends to string and wind players to arrange their own musical instrumental insurance. A photocopy of all insurance documents must be presented to the administration of the Academy by June 1, 2018.

Visa requirements
It is a responsibility of the applicant or parents/legal guardian to verify if a visa is required to visit Italy. As the Academy program is not part of the Italian educational system, only a tourist visa would be required. Please visit this link to verify your citizenship requirements:

Once the applicant is accepted to the program, the Academy will facilitate the process of obtaining official invitation documents through Italian Representatives. They will be issuing three confirmation letters which must be presented at the Italian Consulate by the participant: Invitation letter, Accommodation Declaration stating the place of participant’s staying for the duration of the Academy, and the Certificate of Residency of the Head of the inviting Italian Organization. The fee of 30 euros ($36) for each invitation is charged by the inviting Italian Organization and is payable at the time of application. The Invitation letter along with other documents will be emailed directly to the participant. Originals of all documents will be mailed directly to the participant’s address. Additional fee applies if special DHL delivery is required.
